The City of Newark is a total compensation agency.  Total compensation means that the employee, not the employer, is required to pay for all benefits for themselves and their dependents, such as insurance for medical, dental, vision, life, and disability, out of the salary that is shown on the attached list.  This results in the appearance of higher gross salary information for Newark than other agencies because the other agencies provide these benefits at no, or little, cost to the employee.
